China is a country with a large population,and Hunan is a populous province.Sothe research of Population History has became an indispensable element of the studyof modern Chinese history and Hunan Contemporary History.The local populationhistory is rich in content, itself associated with social change.Population is both abiological communities and the carrier to achieve social change, population livesunder certain mode of production, but also produced under certain lifestyle,therebycomposed of patchwork, in constant motion, the abnormal live the life of theindividual, the community of life and social groups.While study population under thesocial system,will be promoted the certain social’s people to interpret the historyunder the condition of the certain period of time, space,and then explore the laws ofsocial development.Consequently, the study of1949-1964Hunan population hasspecial significance.From the founding of New China in1949to the second nationwide populationcensus in1964, these fifteen years is a special time of Hunan social political andeconomic development as well as an important period of Hunan populationdevelopment and change. Hunan social situation has undergone a tremendous changein the context of social change, the development and change of Hunan population alsohighlights the value and characteristics. This paper has tried to expound Hunanpopulation in the evolution of the situation of these aspects of the quantity, quality,structure, distribution, mobility and migration in the past15years from theperspective of the social history, thus further reveal the intrinsic relation between thedevelopment and change of Hunan population and changes in the politics, economy,culture, ideology and other areas in Hunan Province during this period, hoping toreveal to solve increasingly important population issues in today’s society.
