Inventory is of great importance in the management of textbooks in colleges anduniversities, which will affect, to a certain degree, their further development, because if thestock could not be controlled under a certain amount, it would occupy much of the fundavailable. However, the problem of stock can never be coped with the sole effort from thedepartment of management, but to be solved only under the cooperation of each link in thesupply-chain, ie. the publishers---schools---teachers&students.Through a careful survey done on the present stock situation of the textbooks in manycolleges and universities, coupled with much reference to the theory of supply chain andInventory Optimization, the author tries to set up the goals and focuses of his research. Firstcomes the elaboration of such related theories, as Supply Chain Management, InventoryControl, Inventory Optimization, Economic Order Quantity;and then,he analyzes thevarious forms of variables in the chain from supply to management as well as theirpotential influences on the stock of textbooks in colleges and universities, and to point out, from the perspective of SCM, the existing problems and their causes. After that, heintroduces the basic model of EOD under SCM and its expanded model of EOD as a resultof commercial discount. In order to cope with the existing inventory problems in collegesand universities, with consideration of the reality of how textbooks are now supplied, theauthor, based on the above models, puts forward an optimized model, with differentdiscount awarded according to the different order quantity. The optimized model asks forthe optimization of inventory strategies, on the one hand, to offer different inventorymanagement patterns for different ways of supply, on the other hand, to straighten out allthe links in the supply chain of textbooks, and to set up an information-sharing platformamong all the colleges and universities, which can help to minimize the stock, even to zero.To sum up, this paper, based on the reality of the supply and management of textbooks in colleges and universities, as well as the theory of SCM, tries to straighten outeach link in the whole chain, aiming at minimizing effectively the stock, even to zero.
