In Japan, the numbers of "death in isolation" of aged Japanese have increased year by year."Death in isolation" has been paid much attention in the recent years as one of the most important social problems of Japan. There did not have a clear and unified definition about "death in isolation" yet. In the present paper, the author defined it as "the phenomenon of those aged people who were in isolation and nearly lost all of their social relationships died at home alone without being found for a long time", based on some related researches and reports in Japan, suicides are not included in this question. There are many reasons for the "death in isolation", among which two are important. The present paper was carried out from the perspective of "family form" and "family function". As to "family form", it indicates that the increase of unmarried and single family is the main reason of "death in isolation" for the losing of family care. As to "family function", it shows that, even the traditional family care function also has been weakened a lot and could not play effects as it was. This is another important reason of "death in isolation"."The baby boom generation" faces the problem of "death in isolation". The present paper was researched against this generation and discussed the changes of "family form" and "family function" as well as the relationship between them and the "death in isolation".
