Reading ability is an integrating skill of the reader who makes full use of his or her knowledge and experience to conduct a reading activity. Reading is a basic way to cultivate the sense of language, to gather the information, to know the world and to apperceive the beauty. Guiding the students in a right way to develop their reading interest not only can promote their sense of language but also can enrich their accumulation of language and exploit their thinking. So, improving the reading ability is essential to language teaching during the middle school period.The younger generation is the hope of the nation. In recent years, however, for Mongolian students, it seems very common that their Mongolian subject is weaker compared with other subjects, which is really a head-aching problem both for teachers and parents. And, in turn, the study of Mongolian language becomes a pressure for the Mongolian students. There is no denying that it is our holy tasks to educate the younger generation of the nation to let them master Mongolian language as well as Mongolian culture so as to grant them a promising future. In this essay, some statistic analyses based on deep research have been done about the problem that exists in the teaching of reading in junior middle school. It aims at providing some suggestions on how to improve the reading ability of the junior middle school students.The essay consists of four chapters:introduction, the result of the research into reading condition of junior middle school students and analysis of existing problems, the methods of improving the reading ability of junior middle school students, and conclusion. The New Curriculum Standard of Mongolian Language which is released by the Inner Mongolia Department of Education in2010serves as theoretical basis. The students and teachers of Affiliated Middle School of Inner Mongolia Teacher’s University, Tongliao Mongolian Middle School, Mongolian Middle School in Hexigten, Xilinhot Mongolian Middle School and Sunnid East Banner Mongolian Middle School are the research object. And using questionnaire is the major research method. In the essay, some suggestions on how to improve reading ability of the junior middle school students are put forward according to the results of the research as well as the practical experiences gained from teaching practice. The essay will sure be helpful to the perfection of the policy about teaching, the construction of the teachers and the improvement of Mongolian language learning environment to some degree.
