It is emphasized in the new curriculum standard to enkindle the students' interest in reading, broaden their reading materials and increase the amount of books they read. By carrying out this reading program, students can spend more time choosing good books and do complete worthwhile reading instead of doing examination-centered study. This standard shows the key role extracurricular reading is playing in language teaching.However, in practice, the situation of middle school reading program is not satisfying.Base on some researches and trials, this thesis explores how to carry out reading program in middle school Chinese language teaching. It is composed of four sections:I. results analysis based on questionnaires about current situation in extracurricular reading;II. principles of how to choose good books, and a list of recommended books;III. strategies of how to carry out the reading training program;IV. arrangement of reading time and ? the evaluation of reading outcomes.
