| In the primary school stage, the real practical meaning of effective Englishteaching is using scientific and rational teaching methods to help students developbetter English learning habits, correct English learning attitude, and establish theconfidence to learn English. And eventually the language learning initiative can beimproved, and the effective English teaching lays a solid foundation for students. Aneffective teaching method is not only conducive to the orderly conduct of our Englishteaching, but also having an important impact on the students. In this study, it mainlyuses the methods of documentary research, questionnaire survey, experiment, andsumming up experience. According to the English teaching situation in the author’sinaugural school and the similarity principle of teachers’ teaching experience,teaching level, and seniority, the study has selected one class mainly taught by storyteaching method and one class mainly taught by lecturing teaching method fromGrade Three to Grade Five to do the experiments of classroom teaching. Besides, itcollects questionnaire on English learning of the appropriate class students andEnglish test scores of the same stage to find out whether different teaching methodshave impacts on the students’scores and learning interests. Then through dataanalysis, it explores out that in the primary school, the story teaching method has aprofound impact on students’ learning interests and academic achievement. In thefinal part, the study makes a conclusion of the research results, andrecommendations accordingly, while analyzing the shortages of the research.The study comes to the following conclusions:First, by using different teaching methods, the primary school students’interests in learning English there have no significant differences but significantdifferences in academic achievement, and the story teaching method has a moresignificant effect. The story teaching method can effectively improve the studentsEnglish academic achievement. The study furtherly comparing different teachingmethods in different grades, the fifth-grade students were found that their interestsin learning by the story teaching method were significantly higher than the interests by lecturing teaching method. Thus, it may illustrate that the story teaching methodis more effective for students in senior grades to improve English learning interests.Second, there exists significant differences between boys and girls in theprimary school. Girls have a much better performance than the boys no matter inEnglish learning interests or academic achievement.Third, among different grades, the primary school students interests in learningEnglish are significantly different. The scores of English learning interests in studentsof Grade Five are obviously lower than that in Grade Three and Grade Four.Through the research, the author also tries to help teachers have an exactunderstanding of the use of the story teaching method in the daily teaching. Thenteachers can improve the efficiency of classroom teaching, have a more effectiveteacher-student interaction and ultimately solve practical English teaching problems,making a good preparation for the students’ lifelong English learning anddevelopment. |
