In the1920s and1930s, the rural education received tremendous attention from a number of educators, educational societies, and other social societies, who hoped the rural education could improve the living condition of farmers and help build a stable rural social order. Their ideas and practice in the rural education have provided us with extensive experiences in the reform and development of modern education.In this work, based on the historical materialism and the educational theories, the author collected and analyzed the pertinent data. The author investigated the Zhejiang rural education in1920s and1930s using the historical methodology, research techniques and so on literature material law. This thesis described the official rural education movement and the private rural education movement, explored the causes, compared the rural education in Zheijiang with other four major rural education movements, and summarized the uniqueness and general characteristics of Zhejiang rural education movement and its implication to current rural education in the development and reform. The contributions of this work includes1) the investigation of the Zhejiang rural education in1920s and1930s with the consideration of temporal continuity, detailed operation of the education development, and concurrent national development of the rural education;2) an attempt to explore the implication of the Zhejiang rural education to the modern education;3) an analysis on the relationship of Zhejiang rural education with the reform of modern Chinese rural education; and4) feasible and practical measures for a new Chinese rural education.
