Chinese traditional national sport tournament is unique to the Chinese nation as a folk custom and culture. It’s also an important way to exercise and recreate, to promote the popularity of the traditional national sport. Still, it’s the carrier to inherit traditional culture. It aims not only at athletic functions. At the same time, as the collective form of sports activities, it also aims at the expression of a belief, traditional folk customs and expectations through ritual performances, and recreational activities. The thesis, from the historical development, illustrates the existence and development of Chinese traditional national sport tournament history from ancient times. And with a different perspective, it shows the state of its development in various periods.The thesis is divided into three parts:the introduction, the body (4chapters), the end. Chapter1:Introduction.This chapter described the research status quo of Chinese traditional sports and traditional ethnic sports competitions. It pointed out that the overall lack of study in the entire development process of Chinese traditional national sport tournament, and that it’s necessary to protect and inherit the non-material cultural heritage and traditional culture. It also discourses the purpose and significance of research and research methods, defining the related core concept in the research.Chapter2:Ancient social life with traditional national sports tournament.Chinese traditional national sport tournament is rooted in the social life, and thus this part describes and analyzes its existence and development in the ancient times from three different perspectives:folk life in festivals, military war and life of aristocracy in the court. First, selecting three typical sport tournaments:the tug of war in Lantern Festival, swings in Qingming Festival and the dragon-boat race in Dragon Boat Festival, it explores the cultural function and meaning of Chinese traditional national sports tournament in the life of the ancient festivals. Then from the military war, it discusses the military nature, functionality, purpose and recreation the tournament has showed. Finally, from the court nobility of life it illustrates the multi-function, and tells the path of development towards the acrobatics and performance. Chapter3:The introduction of modern western sports and the development of traditional national sports tournament.Taking it as the bedding-----the social background when the modern Western sports was introduced in and the transmission route, and development of the modern Western sports events in China, this chapter illustrates the impact the national traditional culture has had in modern China and the development of the National Traditional Sports Games and the limitations while emphasizing the cultural consciousness that Chinese sport tournament has showed in such a special historical circumstances.Chapter4:Development of modern Chinese traditional national sports tournament.This chapter, taking "National Games" as an example, illustrates that the national traditional sporting events in the land of China in modern society starts to explore the development process, and to be given the historical responsibility and mission. Of course, in the process, it bounds to suffer various setbacks and hardships, and even the traditional fracture. It is precisely because of this that the tournament needs to seek diversified development path so that it can be promoted and popularized. The traditional culture also can be inherited and developed.Chapter5:the sustainable development of our national traditional sports tournament.By looking back to the development status of Chinese national traditional sports tournament in the entire historical period, this chapter rethinks its true nature and ultimate goal. In addition, it proposes the road of sustainable development, focusing on protecting of traditional national culture and innovating development mode in the future course.Chapter6:Conclusion.This chapter summarizes three historical development stages and the characteristics of our national traditional sports tournament as well as puts forward to many problems still deserving our reflection and discussion when Chinese traditional national sport race develops towards internationalization and the rapid development road in modern society.In the research, the first innovation is to study the traditional national sports development from the perspective of the tournament. The second innovation is to analyze the development of Chinese traditional national sport tournament from the historical stages. Traditional national sports tournament. is a collective concept, containing sports tournaments such as the kites, traditional ethnic minority sports meeting, dragon boat race, empty bamboo festive, the Nadamu Festival etc. They all take a variety of traditional national sport as carriers. In fact, from such a collective concept is helpful for reflecting the overall development of different types of sports games in the various historical periods,and for summing up the features, functions, and cultural significance of Chinese traditional national sports tournament. We having a more macro perspective, unified requirements and expectations can be made in theory. There is no doubt that this is a new perspective on Chinese traditional national sport and traditional culture, which has important theoretical value to the heritage of traditional sports culture and to the sustainable development of traditional national sports tournament.
