Vocabulary teaching has always been regarded as a problem which is ofgreat importance to English teaching in high school and easy to beoverlooked. It is a known fact that the ability to use vocabulary limitsstudents’ abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing.Based on high school students’ characteristics in learning English andrequirements on vocabulary learning regulated in new curriculum standards,this paper expounds on English vocabulary teaching strategies in high schoolbased on constructivism, aiming to apply student-centered teaching conceptto English vocabulary teaching, which will fully reflect students’ principalrole in learning English and train their autonomous ability.The paper consists of four parts.Firstly, theoretical parts provide a series of clear and reasonabledefinitions about the paper.Secondly, the analysis and research of literature help to generalizeresearch status of vocabulary teaching at home and abroad.Thirdly, based on teaching concept and learning concept ofconstructivism, and combined with its basic principles, this paper designsstudent-centered English vocabulary teaching strategies in High school andelaborates on and classifies these methods.Lastly, through experiment, I adopt student-centered teaching stragegiesin experimental class and traditional methods in controlled class respectively.The use of test and quesitonnaire before the experiment will help to get ageneral idea of student’ opinions and suggestions toward vocabulary teachingstrategies and present situation of vocabulary teaching. Test andquestionnaire after the experiment are adopted to test whetherstudent-centered vocabulary teaching strategies will enlarge their vocabularyand whether there is big difference between the two classes. After collecting all the data, a analysis with SPSS16.0was conducted.The results showed that the same class hour, teaching contents, but indifferent vocabulary teaching strategies, produce different results.
