Vocabulary has always been the most difficult process and the biggest challenge in English teaching.It is one of the significant conditions on students' basic competence such as listening,speaking,reading and writing,which also has great link to their integrated skill.But vocabulary teaching is not satisfying because of separation from sentences and context,neglect in phonetics and semantics,mechanical repetition etc,and it remains low-efficient in students' vocabulary recognition,understanding and application nowadays.This thesis aims to explore how to apply the student-centered concept to stimulate students' interest and improve the vocabulary teaching.Therefore,two questions were supposed to answer :(1)Is vocabulary teaching based on the concept of student-centered education more effective than that of teacher-centered?(2)Can vocabulary teaching based on the concept of student-centered education promote the notion and attitude to learning English and arouse interest for the further study?This paper plans to improve the efficiency in vocabulary teaching in senior high school with supporting from student-centered education theory.It has close connection with the fundamental principles of student-centered concept,all for students,highly respecting students and relying on students overall.The study was carried out in ZhenHua Senior High School.Class 1 is experimental and Class 2 is control class,115 students were tested.The study contains some kinds of the data collections,such as interview,questionnaire,vocabulary test,and the analysis of students' score,which came from the experiment based on the student-centered education concept.The data of test papers showed that the average score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class after the experiment,which demonstrated that vocabulary teaching based on the student-centered education was helpful in promoting students' English vocabulary achievement.
