There are lots of difficult problems when you teach the American students of learning Chinese. Pronunciation, radicals and meanings of characters are the three general problems in this process. The purpose of thesis is to find an effective and vivid method into Chinese characters learning. Facing with the university beginners of learning Chinese in States, we need to use our imaginations to create a new curriculum design on Chinese characters learning. There are four basic methods using in thesis in the following:a. Documentation method:investigate and analyze to documentation in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.b. Questionnaires method:make a Chinese character questionnaire for university beginners of learning Chinese in States.c. Classification method:classify and analyze data from the questionnaire, rinding and solving main problems, give a curriculum design of Chinese characters.d. Empirical method:in order to test and verify results of curriculum design, putting it into a real Chinese characters class.In general, the expected effects in this thesis almost reached. Through analyzing the occurred problems, a specific set of curriculum design is created. Hopes for the future are to continuously improve this curriculum design while accumulating related experiences.
