The thesis studies Xungu (the explanations of words) in Erya and Shuoya in recentdecades as the research project, making an extraction of end from dozens of books and paperson the research of Yaxue. Respectively from the value of Erya and Shuoya is analyzed,including the content analysis, the semantic category, the semantic explanation and thecontrastive analysis of influence on Chinese culture from several aspects. It concludes bothsimilarities and differences of the semantic explanation from Erya Yiqi and Shuoya Yiqi,which covers parts of yinxun (pronunciation), xingxun (appearance) and yixun (meaning); itreflects the development of Chinese culture at that time from the combination of the reality ofsocial development and words of Shuoya Shiqi. It would be great if this thesis could help thecontrast research of Shuoya and Erya in the future, and provide some theoretical bases.There are seven chapters in the thesis. Chapter1is introduction, which comments theresearch status of Yaxue and Xungu, introduce the research purpose and significance of thethesis, and illustrate the theoretical bases, research methods and the selection of words fromErya Yiqi and Shuoya Yiqi. Chapter2is content analysis of Erya and Shuoya, respectively forthe analysis of semantic category and content arrangement. Chapter3illustrates the way ofsemantic explanations of Erya Yiqi in three aspects of shengxun, xingxun and yixun. Chapter4llustrates the way of semantic explanations of Shuoya Yiqi also in three aspects of shengxun,xingxun and yixun. Chapter5compares the semantic explanation part of Yiqi both from Eryaand Shuoya in ways of terminologies, methods and categories. Chapter6analyzes Erya Yiqiand Shuoya Yiqi with Chinese culture from aspects of catering, farm tools, fishing andhunting. Chapter7is conclusion, which summarizes the comparisons and analyses of thisthesis.
