The80’s literature is the most important literary phenomenon in China at the beginningof21st century.After2000, the80’s literature with the theme of youth has made greatachievements in literary market. When such writers born in1980s as Han Han, Guo Jingming,Zhang Yueran have become eye—catching literary stars or new millionaires, when the80’sliterature has evolved from a literary event to a media event, there appeared a spectacle in oursociety.The80’s literature is the first writing trend of youngsters and the product of the culturalreform in the second media age.The Internet, which is based on computers, has over thrown the cultural power pattern inthe first media age and made wide space for the appearance of a new literary force.Han Han isprobably China’s most famous writer, certainly its most famous blogger. The poster child of thepost-80s generation (80后), Han Han seems to be more talked about than read. Even his moststalwart fans seem to treat his novels as an after-thought, citing his inflammatory personality asthe main attraction. There’s something to be said for his personality, for sure. One of a very few successfulpublic figures to have renounced the Chinese educational system, and authority in general, HanHan is kind of the rebel child of the young generation. His main weapon is his blog, where hecriticizes the Writers’ Association, literary critics, bureaucrats, city mayors, and whoever he takesit into his head to dislike. In a country where the old fuddy-duddies are very much in control andvery much dislike being laughed at, Han Han is a minor miracle. He is criticized by some asbeing a literary lightweight (justified), and by others as only attacking the small fry, not the bigcahunas (also justified, though justifiable), but he’s single-handedly inculcating a rebelliousattitude in China’s younger generation, and that can’t be sneezed at.
