There are all kinds of relations between the clauses of complex sentences, which can be shown by many language means. The depth of our understanding on the internal logical relations of clauses is decided by the research of these means. In Baota District, Yan’an City of Shaanxi province, means to express the relationships of complex sentences are unique.Therefore, there is important significance to describe the means of expressing the relations in complex clauses in Baota District of Yan’an City. Mr. Xing Fuyi divided complex sentences into three types. In this thesis, the author will have a detailed description of the means of expressing the relations in complex clauses in Baota District on the basis of the theories of Mr. Xing Fuyi.This paper is divided into four parts.The introduction part introduces the general concept about the relations in complex sentences. In this part, firstly the author will interpret the external basis of internal logical relations of complex sentences and on the basis of it the author will explain the rationality of Mr. Xing Fuyi’s theories and will illustrate the functions of associated words to express the logical relations in complex sentences and will probe into the possible means of expressing the relations in complex sentences. Secondly, the author will elaborately introduce the research status of complex sentences, and the research results from1898until now. Then the author will explain the research value and significance of this thesis, namely references will be provided for the research of dialect of Jin. Finally the author will mention that this thesis is developed on the basis of Mr. Xing Fuyi’s theories.In the second chapter, the author will mainly describe the means of expressing the relations in complex sentences in Baota District. According to the theories of Mr. Xing Fuyi, complex sentences can be divided into three categories, namely the casual, parallel and transitional complex sentences. And the casual complex sentences can be divide into five sub-categories, including causal sentences, if sentence, conditional sentences, objective sentences and inferring sentences. Parallel complex sentence consists of compound, coherent, progressive and selection sentences. Transitional compound sentences includes turning, concessive and false turning sentences. The author will respectively describe the means of expressing the logical relations of each sub-category sentence, which will be supported by plenty of language data. By doing this, the author tries to present the usage of the expression means in this area. And every example will have its corresponding expressions of Chinese Mandarin. As for some expression means which have special local color, starting from the diachronic perspective, the author will explore their roots, interpret its grammaticalization process and make clear the relations the various existing grammatical meaning.In the third chapter, the author will mainly summarize the characteristics of this area’s expression means in complex sentences. First, the author will list the differences of the expressions means of logical relations brought by different sub-categories of complex sentences between Mandarin and dialect in Baota District. Then she will compare them and summarize the characteristics of expression means of relations in complex sentences in Baota District. Firstly, compared with Mandarin, only in few occasions will dialect in Baota District adopt the same expression means as Mandarin. On the contrary, in most cases, it will adopt the expression means with local color. Secondly, Baota dialect adopts parataxis extensively. The dialect is living. The context and tone levels guarantees the logical relations between clauses, even it is in the case of lacking the associated words. Thirdly, the modality adverbs and modal particles play an important role in expressing the relations of the complex sentences. These words, when used together with other adverbs in the dialect, make the expressions of relations in complex sentences of Baota District dialect more vivid.The fourth chapter concluded the point of view of the author, the innovation and research value of this thesis.
