Conjunction is the most important part to achieve cohesion in Chinese expression. Compared with simple sentences, conjunctions are more complicated in logical semantics, structures and other aspects when forming multi-complex sentences. Overseas students from Japan on intermediate and advanced level can basically express complete meaning in Chinese. They make fewer grammar mistakes in simple sentences. But we can perceive from their compositions that once they begin to express a short paragraph the problem of linking starts to be exposed, for example:no or lack of cohesion between sentences, so that they can’t make a coherent and smooth expression. One of the important reasons is that they don’t use the conjunctions correctly.Referring to the corpus of HSK, this study will try to collect and analyze correct and wrong examples of conjunction usage made by overseas students from Japan on intermediate and advanced level. Furthermore, to sum up their characteristics and mistakes in using conjunctions and then find out the reason why they make these mistakes. On the bases of these steps, this study will propose some advices in conjunction teaching for Japanese overseas students.The dissertation is composed of6chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part, mainly explaining the origin and purpose of this research, current situation of conjunction research, theoretical basis and research scope. In this way, the author wants to let the readers know the value of this research.The second chapter focuses on the comparative analysis of Chinese and Japanese conjunctions. This part will compare the difference between Chinese and Japanese conjunctions by definition and classification, and provide theoretical basis for mistakes analysis in later parts.The third chapter is to use corpus statistics to analyze the collected data applied on overseas students from Japan on intermediate and advanced level used conjunctions, and find out the characters and problems of those student while using conjunction.The fourth chapter will analyze separately statistics of all kinds of conjunction mistakes and rate of mistakes in omission, incorrect added mistakes, false generation, wrong order on overseas students from Japan on intermediate and advanced level cases bias using conjunction,The fifth chapter mainly analyzes from three aspects of the negative transfer from mother language’ transfer, the negative transfer of the target language and avoidance strategies on overseas students from Japan on intermediate and advanced level caused mistakes using conjunction, and combined with the causes of mistakes to propose advices on Chinese Conjunctions studyingThe sixth chapter is the conclusion, this paper does a summary of the research, and gives the advices on Chinese conjunctions studying and point out the inadequate parts on the research.
