Language is the tool of communication, and vocabulary is the carrier of the language. As a part of the vocabulary system, abbreviation has penetrated into our daily life in the various fields. Whether reading newspapers or magazines, listening to the news reports, surfing the internet, or looking at the names of the city streets, government agencies or shops, it is obvious that abbreviations are always in our sight.This thesis consists of three parts:introduction, main body and conclusion.The first part serves as introduction, which presents the development background of Russian Abbreviations. On its basis, it raises the research objectives, methods and significance of this thesis.The main body of this thesis contains four chapters:Chapter One summarizes the research status on Russian abbreviation and abbreviation from the aspect of pragmatics, the origin and development of pragmatics.Chapter Two introduces the four types of terms of Russian abbreviations in detail. By comparing their relationship, we determine the research object adopted here, then classify its formation.Chapter Three is the key chapter, analyzing the pragmatic function of Russian abbreviation, that is, the economic function, unconventional, eye-catching function, enhancing expression function. Besides, it also discusses the humorous, ironic emotional function of disabbreviation.Chapter Four analyzes the factors affecting the development of Russian abbreviations from the perspectives of political, economic, technology, military and culture; then we proposes two kinds of solutions to the problems developed in the usage of Russian abbreviationConclusion is the summary of the whole thesis.The originality of this thesis is exploring the usage of Russian abbreviation.
