| Nature is an eternal proposition for the artists. Description of naturallife has been regarded by both the Chinese woodcut artist Zheng Shuangand Scottish painter Elizabeth Blackadder, born in the same times,growing up in different environment, as their artistic pursuit. On one hand,the pursuit and development of lyric printmaking is the commitment ofZheng Shuang, who expresses the simple and pure beauty of life; on theother hand, a unique painting style is formed by Elizabeth Blackadder,who inclusively learns from others and positively absorbs the nutrition offoreign cultures, firmly rooted on traditional art. In the paper, acomparative analysis is made on the two artists. Focus is put on findingthe similarities and differences of their paintings, with their works of thesame themes as examples. These two artists’ distinctive personalitiesand the various artistic features of their artworks are clearly illustratedduring the process. Besides that, the multiple interrelations betweennature, life and art would be further explored to provide ideas and lessonsfor the future art practice. |
