"Three Kingdoms", "a", "Mirror" Sima Yi Image In Comparison

Sima Yi as a literary figure, his first appearance was in Chen Shou’s The History of Three Kingdoms, and be given a formal biography in The History of Jin later. As for Sima Guang’s Tzu Chih Tung Chien, since it contains the history from Han dynasty to Wei and Jin dynasty completely, needless to say, it couldn’t overlook such a character.Now researching books about Sima Yi’s mostly make reference to Sima Yi in his ethics,morality, militay affairs and strategy’s meaning from the angles of historical science and civilization, to research the history problem and appearance of culture, or touched on various fields about the history of philosophy, the history of ideas and the history of military affairs. The Sima Yi’s figure and matter what they discussed was always from various books and gather together to one figure but pay little attention on the difference and the meaning of Sima Yi’s image among the three canons.The difference between this article and the previous researchers is that, just take the three history canons as a literary text, cutting in from the different point of the three authors of the character of Sima Yi’s literary image, contrasting on character’s personality, character, destiny, figure typicalness, detail description and figure spoken, character image, also pay attention to the relative superiority or inferiority about the Sima Yi character description in the three canons, so as to carry out a comparative study.In this thesis, in addition to the relevant reference books, are all drawn from the official history of The History of Three Kingdoms, The History of Jin, and Tzu chih tung chien the three canons’relevant materials. This paper is divided into five parts, through different stages of Sima Yi, namely, The hermit Sima Yi’s debut in the political arera; The life’s summer of Sima Yi, as a military adviser; excellent general Sima Yi and Sima Yi’s remaining years of his colourful image in the three canons to make a comparative study in time sequence and different canons, along the author editing and creating history and showing their historical talent and literary talent freely, to appreciate the inventiveness of the difference of Sima Yi’s literary image in the canons, and compare Sima Yi with other images in the three canons, to summarize the moral principles, military direction and holding power’s tactics of Sima Yi briefly. The author of The History of Three Kingdoms Chen Shou was restricted in his writing because he was confined by the time and political background. So he could not give the rein to his literary talent as much as his likes, but he still left his evaluation of Sima Yi between the lines.The author of The History of Jin choosed Zang Rong Xu’s The History of Jin as a original version, and used a lot of legend, cut out unwanted materials, just strived for flowery language, but made lots of mistakes. The History of Jin for Sima Yi, although hold contradictory attitudes, but provided us a relatively complete image of Sima Yi in his text for appreciation, because the collected biographies form of the canon.Sima Guang judged Sima Yi by the level of loyalty or craftiness more. Once confirmed whose style was unscrupulous and scheming, he would never be soft-hearted but tried his best to denounce by tongue and pen. If met with peerless arch-careerist and prodigy, he still couldn’t hide his favour in the canon. In addition, the accomplished historical canon’s mission also resolved the purpose of he produced Sima Yi’s image was for summing up the truth of success or failure, gain and loss, to afford lessons that merit attention more.The characters of historical records are always as vivid as life because authors endowed them with plenty of emotion, and show authors’ sentiment and taste unintentionally. The emotional history is not just history, but also belongs to the paradigm of literature. Just because it can be classified as literature, the description of various characters will be worthy of appreciation, and be worthy to been learned. In the long history of Chinese culture, historical text also plays an important or even overwhelming proportion. Therefore, we talk about literature from record of historians which will provide a fresh outlook.
