Manet 19th Century French Art Salon

Edouard Manet (1832-1883) is a French painter in the19th century. He is the transfer of western painting from traditional Realism to the impressionistic style aiming to express the feeling about light and color, and exerted an influence on the following schools of Modernism. As the great painter who connected link between the preceding and the following, however, his many high-quality works could not be chosen to official salon. The reason is that his works theme and style are big different from the officially recognized standard..The research object of the paper is to conduct a systematic and detailed research on Manet’s paintings, based on the latest related research fruits home and abroad. And then makes a further study of three major characteristics of his works:the special female topic, planarity and heritage image schemes. Therefore, I discuss characteristics in his paintings and determine the cause of failure to be chosen from a new perspective. The study found that the formation of Manet’s features were hard-earned. His persistence and tenacity was highly respected.In the process of discussion, the empirical method is applied to analyze Manet’s representative paintings and innovative creation concept, explore the painter’s ideas and the differences between Manet’s and standards. Besides, by analyzing Manet’s works in detail, the paper throw light upon characteristics of his art works. Then the paper makes a detailed and profound description and interpretation on many Manet’s great works, namely, The Lunch on the Grass, Olympia, Victorine meurent in the costume of an espada and The Fifer and also on other related paintings and themes as well as his ideas and influence, etc. So the movement which was led and promoted by Manet’s Modernism Art will be fully and deeply understood.
