| In this paper, the author explores the use of light and shadow in figurative oil paintingthrough the author’s own painting practice and theoretical study in oil painting. Light andshadow, as an artistic language in oil paint has a unique artistic expression. This paperelaborates the effect of light and shadow in oil painting through the analysis of color,composition and space. This paper limits the study of light and shadow in figurative oilpainting, analyses the source of light and the development of light and shadow in figurativeoil painting, seeks to sort out and review the use of light and shadow in figurative oil painting,and elaborates that the use of light and shadow is not only a way to reproduce the objectiveworld, but also an effective way to create artistic conception of the painting and to express thepainter’s emotion. The use of light and shadow is associated with the zeitgeist. We shouldcontinue the search, light and shadow which constitutes the ontology language of oil paintingshould make new development in the diversified modern figurative oil painting. |
