A Study Of Light And Shadow In Contemporary Chinese Painting

Since the 20 th century,under the background of the continuous integration of Eastern and Western cultures,light and shadow modeling techniques in Western painting have flowed into China,which has continuously influenced Chinese painting and promoted the development of the expression forms of Chinese painting to a certain extent.In fact,ancient China had a certain understanding of light and shadow,but due to the profound influence of traditional philosophical thoughts and painting concepts,Chinese painters do not depict light and shadow like Western paintings,so there is not much research on light and shadow expression in traditional Chinese paintings.And modern painters gradually have a new understanding and practice of light and shadow performance,presenting a new look different from traditional Chinese painting.The author starts with the study of the expression forms of light and shadow in contemporary Chinese painting,explores the significance of its development in contemporary Chinese painting,traces the reasons for the appearance of light and shadow expression forms in contemporary Chinese painting,and analyzes the artistic characteristics of light and shadow expression forms in contemporary Chinese painting.Representative practical cases are cited for analysis.For example,Tian Liming’s figure painting uses mottled points to express light and shadow,Lin Fengmian combines light and color to create atmosphere,Li Keran creates backlight effect in the picture by sketching and combining Western light and shadow expression techniques,and Zheng Qingyu’s lightgathering style clearly emphasizes the sense of volume in the picture.It can be found that the influence of various factors makes the light and shadow expression of contemporary Chinese painting present a unique painting form in the creation.Chinese painters learn from,absorb,improve and apply the western painting experience,retain the advantages and characteristics of traditional Chinese painting,and subjectively create the light and shadow expression form of Chinese painting.They skillfully use light and shadow elements to explore the field of Chinese painting,looking for more possibilities.Enrich the contemporary Chinese painting light and shadow form.
