The Torgut dialect is an important one within the Oirat dialecct group, and apart from phonological, lexical and grammatical similarities with the common Mongolian written language, and it exhibits its own regional peculiarities. In studies about Oirat, the Torgut dialect is commonly taken as the basis. This is because the speakers of this dialect are numerous, widely spread, the basis of the Clear Script and influentious and, thus, representative. Moreover, this dialect by and large reflects the basic characteristics of the Oirat dialect group. But even though grammar is relatively stable, in the course of many years language changes and regional characteristics come into being. From June to Auguest in2012,I took part in a field expedition of counties in Xinjiang province,as Heijing, Khoshut, Bostunagur, and to Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Khobogsair county in Tacheng prefecture and Teges county in Ili prefecture. Doing so, I collected materials such popular tales as Janggar, Han Haranggui and tales already recorded in Clear Script in "Dumdadu ulus-un arad-un aman uliger-iin sinjiyang-un emhidgel-un hejing siyen-ii arad-un aman iiliger-un hubiyari emhidgel". On the basis of these, I have attempted to draw a sketch of the grammatical properties of verbs in the Torgut dialect. This thesis is divided into a lot of parts--an introduction, chapters1-5, a conclustion and a bibliography. Chapters1-5make up the core of this thesis. Chapter1, after briefly discussing verb classes in Mongolian, provides a sketch of verb classes in Torgut such as regular verbs, pro-verbs, auxiliary verbs and the complementizer (linking) verb. Chapter2deals with grammatical categories of Torgut such as mood, voice and morphologically derived aktionsart. Chapter3deals with the different kinds of converbs (linking converbs, specialized converbs, and the continuous converb which exhibits properties of both major classes).
