Nobody could deny that translation publication had played such an importantrole as a communication media in the modern cultural development of China.Translated literatures has been the most communicative and acceptable content ofcommunication because of its own characteristics. It disseminated foreign culture,opened the vision of Chinese people, injected new elements to Chinese modernliteratures, and at the same time promoted communication and convergencebetween our local culture and world culture system. Since the implementation ofreform and opening-up policy in1978, as the flourishing of economic developmentand the deepening of opening-up, the publication of translated literature hasgradually become an indispensable part of our literary publishing market.Shanghai, a city of tolerance, forgiveness and tremendous absorptive captivity,had always been the news and publishing center of China before1949, and has aunique advantage in publication of translated literatures. After1978, as one of themost important organization in translated literature publishing in Shanghai, thegrowth of Shanghai Translation Publishing House (STPH) is rooted in the environmentof the development of Shanghai. As an object for research, STPH can objectivelyreflect the publishing activities of translated literatures in Shanghai in modern times,and as well as the temperament and characteristics of publishing units which reflectthe contemporary condition in Shanghai.The Research mainly takes STPH as the study object, discusses the changes andfeatures of the translated literature publishing in Shanghai after1978in four sections.The introduction defines the scope and concepts of the study object, combs thedomestic translated literature publishing research literature, and defines the researchmethods and research purposes. The Second Chapter divides the growing process ofSTPH into four parts according to the trajectory of the overall development oftranslated literature publishing in our country after1978. Then describes theoperation activities and the changing trajectories of STPH’s translated literaturepublishing by combing various periods publishing environment and analyzing the STPH’s translated literature publications in different periods. The Third Chapterselects a series of literary classics of each press from People’s Literature PublishingHouse, STPH and Yilin Publishing House, and analyzes the content forming, bindingdesign and the translator structure of each series. Then it summarizes differentpublishing styles showed in the different geographical Press and the characteristics ofShanghai translated literature publishing in a microscopic point of view. TheConclusion summarizes the results of the research, raising the thinking anddiscussion of the problems in the field of translated literature publishing.The article focuses on the collection and analysis of the raw data of thebibliography and Yearbook, and is based on first-hand information by interview andcommunication with STPH’s senior editors. I carefully examined and distilled the datato try to make the statements in this article as credible as possible. Due to thelimitations of data acquisition channels and personal horizons, there are still someproblems to be excavated and thought.
