Psych verbs play a special and important role in the verb system, however, scholars always have the problems in using consistent definition and classification of psych verbs in their researches. In terms of present study, most of the researches focus on modern Chinese psych verbs, but few take the ancient Chinese psych verbs into consideration. Therefore, it seems necessary to take a close look and detailed investigation of the ancient Chinese psych verbs. In addition, Hou Han Shu, as a significant collection of language data of language features in the Eastern Han Dynasty, is considered as the second book of dynastic history after Han Shu. Thus, the present thesis intends to make an exhaustive analysis and description of psych verbs in Hou Han Shu, which is very representative and serves as the source of language data for the study.The present thesis consists of five parts:the first part is the introduction, which include the basic situation and the linguistic value of Hou Han Shu. The language study situationg of Hou Han Shu. The topic of this article and research method.The second part is the general appearance of the Hou Han Shu psychological verbs. There are two aspects in this part, one is extraction and classification of Hou Han Shu psychological verbs, the other is extracted principle of psychological verds of Hou Han Shu psychological verb.The third part of the research focus on the studies of semantics of psych verbs in Hou Han Shu, which mainly talks about the meaning analysis of psych verbs, and divides them into three classes.The fourth part analyzes consecutive phenomenon of the psychological verb on Hou Han Shu, which includes the consecutive definition, the number of psychological verb and the combined form of consecutive meaning of Hou Han Shu, and also talks about the reason, significance and reverse order of consecutive phenomenon in this part.In the fifth part,we fully describe the syntactic distribution of the psychological verbs in Hou Han Shu,and find that they are mainly used to predicate, besides, they can be used as subject predicate, object, attributive, adverbial. Meanwhile, this part talks about the type of object which is dominated by psychological verb, the semantic relationship between psychological verb and object, as well as complement and adverbial of psychological verb.The sixth part is a summary of the first few chapters.
