Commercial terms of the plaque are a kind of social language, which could directly reflect the characteristics of the language and its relative social culture and social psychological characteristics, etc.The thesis made a systematic investigation on the commercial terms of the plaques in the eight main business streets of Suihua by adopting the same methods used by the sociolinguistic scholars when they explored social languages, i.e. field survey, collection of social language corpus, and statistical analysis. The thesis summarized the investigation situation and analyzed in detail the language features, language uses, social culture and social psychology of the plaque expressions of Suihua. The language features of the plaque expressions of Suihua can be reflected in the aspects of phonetics, semantics and grammar. The plaque expressions of Suihua mainly reflect the features on styles, contexts and figures of speech. The social culture of the plaque expressions of Suihua reflects both the traditional and the modern cultures. Its social psychology reflects people’s psychological features in seeking novelty, wealth, individuality, beauty, grace, conformity and conventions. On the basis of the investigation, the thesis listed several problems in the plaque expressions in Suihua:mixed use of traditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinese characters; confused usages of foreign words; wrongly written characters; inappropriate use of words; language ambiguity of the terms of the plaques; and so on. It put forward the following approaches to the existing problems:strengthening the improvement of the standardization of language and character, enhancing the comprehensive treatment of language and character, reinforcing the legal supervision and regulation, and improving the qualities of the business owners and the plaque makers. The author hopes that the thesis could provide referential theory support for Suihua merchants in their naming plaques and help people know Suihua better. The thesis will have some practical significance in promoting the culture of the Cold Region and Black Glebe in Suihua and boosting the economic development of Suihua.
