Evaluation Of Different Ways To Solve Everyday Problems In Older Persons

The thesis makes a study on how four different kinds of evaluation methods affect theelderly’s ability of daily problem-solving through comprehensive analysis and Lisrel modelconstruction. The study applies the following four main research tools, namely the ability test ofself report on daily problem-solving, the ability test of proxy report on daily problem-solving, theability scale test of daily problem-solving based on paper and pencil together with the ability testof daily problem-solving based on practical application which is edited by the group members ofour project. And the research objects are the elderly at the age of60-84in Jiangxi province. Theresults of the study show that there are no significant differences of the four kinds of evaluationmethods in general, which can be illustrated as follows: As for the ability of the electric project,there is a huge gap on proxy report method on the gender difference; while for the ability of thefinancial management, there is a huge gap on the gender difference of self-reported method. Thesefour kinds of evaluation methods have significant differences in the degree of culture. As for themedication-taking project, there are cultural differences on the method of practical application; asfor the project of making phone, proxy report, the test of paper and pencil as well as practicalapplication have significant differences; as for the appliance project of electrical power andequipment, self-report, the test by paper and pencil and practical application in the cultural degreedifference; as for the project of financial management, self-report, proxy report, test by paper andpencil and practical application are extremely different. The proxy report has obvious differencesin economic status in general, there are significant differences of the practical application in thethe project of medicine-taking; meanwhile, the proxy report has huge differences on the project ofmaking a call; and for the appliance project of electrical power and equipment, self-report, proxyreport as well as the test by paper and pencil are different in economic stature.Age is anothersignificant factor correlated with proxy report and the score of the test by paper and pencil andpractical application in general; in addition, age also obviously related to the score of the test bypaper and pencil and practical application in the the project of medicine-taking; And it also has asignificant correlation with the score of the proxy report and the test by paper and pencil on theproject of making a call; what’s more, it correlates significantly with the score of the proxy reportand the practical appliance of the electrical power and equipment as well as the proxy report andthe practical appliance of financial management. Besides health as a factor has a positivecorrelation with the score of self report and the test by paper and pencil in general. What’s more,the health has a significant positive correlation with the score of self report and the practicalapplication of medication-taking; besides, it relates to the score of the project of making telephoneof self report; and at the same time, there is positive correlation with the score of self report andthe electrical project by the test of paper and pencil as well as the self report and the financialmanagement by the test of paper and pen. The factor of age has a main effect by the method ofproxy report. And the gender effect as well as the age effect is obvious in test of dailyproblem-solving. These four kinds of evaluation methods are consistent at a moderate degree.Comparatively, the reliability of practical application, test by paper and pencil and self-reportedtest is higher than the proxy report.Based on the above results, to evaluate the ability of daily problem-solving for the elderly, itis necessary to apply multiple methods from as many perspectives as possible.
