Objective:Preliminary studying the probable mechanism and clinical curative effect of Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy with taking Gui Zhi Wen Dan decoction on circulating endothelial progenitor cells and limbs movement function in patients with acute brain infarction, and providing a reliable basis for its clinical application. Methods:This study consecutively admitted patients with acute brain infarction, whom have syndrome of phlegm and blood stasis obstructing collateral.60patients meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups:Observed Group and the Treatment Group,30cases in each group. Observed group employed basic treatment plus Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy with taking Gui Zhi Wen Dan decoction and the Treatment group employed basic treatment daily plus Imitating Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy with taking Gui Zhi Wen Dan decoction, the total of continuous treatment for10days. Level of circulating EPCs coming from venous blood (surface makers:CD34+/KDR+were examined using flow cytometry(FCM). Both groups were evaluated with Fugl-Meyer (FMA) and modified barthel index(MBI) at the beginning and the end of the treatment. Results:1.After lOdays, the number of EPCs after treatment were obviously increased in comparison with those before treatment in both groups, there was statistically significant(P<0.01); the Observed group was increased more obviously than the treatment group and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).2.After lOdays, the FMA score after treatment were obviously increased in comparison with those before treatment in both groups, there was statistically significant(P<0.01); the Observed group was increased more obviously than the treatment group and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).3.After10days, the MBI score after treatment were obviously increased in comparison with those before treatment in both groups, there was statistically significant(P<0.01); the Observed group was increased more obviously than the treatment group and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:There are significant therapeutic effects of Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy with taking Gui Zhi Wen Dan decoction on patients with acute brain infarction, whom have syndrome of phlegm and blood stasis obstructing collateral, such as mobilizing and proliferating circulating endothelial progenitor cells, reducing limbs movement function and activities of daily living of patients, the efficacy of Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy with taking Gui Zhi Wen Dan decoction is superior than the other therapy. Preliminary discussion that the probable mechanism of significant therapeutic is mobilizing EPCs in the bone marrow to migrate into the blood and homing to damaged tissue at acute cerebral infarction, thus promoting repair of damaged blood vessels and angiogenesis of infarct region. However, studies still need be deeper.
