Objective:Preliminary studying probable mechanism of Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy treating acute cerebral infarction by study whether Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy promote repairation of damaged blood vessels and angiogenesis of infarct region by mobilizing EPCs in the bone marrow to migrate into the blood and homing to damaged tissue at acute cerebral infarction, and providing a reliable basis for its clinical application.Methods:This study comsecutively admitted patients with acute brain infarction whose time of onset were in two weeks bewteen January2013and January2014at the second hospital of hunan university of Chinese Medicine, Department of Neurology.60patients metting the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups:Xing Shen Qi Bi group and the routine acupuncture group,30cases in each group.Xing Shen Qi Bi group employed Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy plus basic treatment and the routine acupuncture group employed routine acupuncture plus basic treatment daily, every cycle is5days. Continuous lOdays. Level of circulating EPCs coming from venous blood (surface makers:CD34+/KDR+)were examined using flow cytometry. Both groups were evaluated with Clinical Nerve Functional Impairment Level Score Standard (CSS) and modified barthel index(MBI) at the beginning and the end of the treatment. Results:1.The number of EPCs after treatment were obviously increased in comparison with those before treatment in both groups, there was statistically significant(P<0.01); the Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy group was increased more obviously than he routine acupuncture group and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).2.The CSS score after treatment were obviously decreased in comparison with those before treatment in both groups, there was statistically significant(P<0.01); the Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy group wasdecreased more obviously than the routine acupuncture group and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).3.The MBI score after treatment were obviously increased in comparison with those before treatment in both groups, there was statistically significant(P<0.01); the Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy group was increased more obviously than he routine acupuncture group and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:There are significant therapeutic effects of Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy on patients with acute brain infarction, such as mobilizing and proliferating circulating endothelial progenitor cells, reducing neurological functional deficit and activities of daily living of patients, Xing Shen Qi Bi Needling therapy’s efficacy is superior than routine acupuncture.probable mechanism is mobilizing EPCs in the bone marrow to migrate into the blood and homing to damaged tissue at acute cerebral infarction, thus promoting repairation of damaged blood vessels and angiogenesis of infarct region.However, studies still need be deeper.
