With China’s sustained economic development and increasing levels of per capita consumption, people demand and car ownership is also growing, bringing a range of energy crisis and environmental problems. To solve this problem, one should both study the new engine technology and research alternative fuels. Since butanol has good physical and chemical properties, as new alternative fuel of vehicle engines, which caused widespread concern in the field of transport energy, it become a hot topic of alternative fuels.To better understand the combustion characteristics of the butanol gasoline blends, the paper studied energy conversion characteristics of35%butanol gasoline blends in a constant volume combustion bomb.Firstly, the effect of filling pressure, medium temperature and the excess air coefficient on the energy conversion laws was studied. The selected boundary conditions are as follows, filling pressure is0.9MPa,1.2MPa and1.5MPa, initial temperature is250℃and300℃and the excess air coefficient is1.2and1.4. In combination of different boundary conditions, using the constant volume combustion bomb, the butanol gasoline blends combustion characteristics were tested. Via analyzing the obtained thermodynamic parameters, the effect of different boundary conditions on the energy conversion characteristics were studied.Then, a three-dimensional numerical methods and mathematical models of the combustion process in the constant volume combustion bomb were created. Via AVL FIRE software the mesh geometry model of the constant volume combustion bomb was achieved. Experimental verification of the model indicates that the computational model is reasonable and credible.Finally, in order to obtain a more extensive combustion characteristic, simulation study of energy conversion characteristics of butanol gasoline mixed fuel under expanded boundary conditions was obtained using the AVL FIRE software. The selected expanded boundary conditions are as follows, filling pressure is0.9MPa,1.2MPa,1.5MPa and1.8MPa; initial temperature is250℃,300℃,350℃and300℃; and the excess air coefficient is1.2,1.4and1.6.Simulation study of the gasoline-butanol fuel energy conversion characteristics is basically the same with the experimental analysis.
