With the advancement of digital cinema and continuous adjustment of the business modelof large domestic theatres, many new features arose and slowly became a general trend.The main purpose of this paper was to make a comprehensive analysis of the space designof mainstream cinemas in large and medium-size cities, namely the digital multiplexcinema combining with commercial complex, and to make revisions and supplementsbased on a lot of research and arrangement on previous studies and works.Beginning with an investigation into typical cases of the domestic digital cinema to obtainthe most effective data and information, the paper dug the potential obstacles to thedevelopment of digital multiplex cinema and summarized the design characteristics ofexcellent theaters in Beijing, providing a reference for the design of post-modern cinema.Early development of cinema experienced the periods of accessories, pure entertainment,publicity and education. The basic spatial pattern is defined herein as "traditional singletheater space model", and then gradually developing into the "modern multiplex cinemaspace model". This is the initial stage of the development of modern cinema. After theyear of2012, people’s consumption concept has changed slowly from pure recreationactivity into culture leisure. The value of going to cinema existed both in a practical lifestyle and in the needs for culture. The modern cinema’s development has entered a newlevel.Line Cinema System was put into force after2001in China."Franchise Contract" and"Assets Linked" were the two major cinema company types. The paper mainly studied onthe latter. The type of "Asset Linked" reflected many different features of spatial patternsof modern cinema from that of traditional cinema: on the one hand, the paper describedthe general principles of modern commercial cinema sites, the master plan and streamlinedesign of multiplex cinema; on the other hand, interior graphic design was detailed in thepaper, such as the set-up and decoration design principles of box office, canteen, waitingareas and other key areas; as well as the design principles and types of entrance hall,main hallway, bathroom, IMAX hall with photos and description.Based on serious homogenization status of the development of China’s cinema for a longtime and consumer groups’ growing demand for spirit and culture; meanwhile, combiningwith the new features of modern cinema, the paper presented an important point of thecultural attributes and brand identity of cinema design, introducing a concept of "cultural exchanges" in it. The cultural exchanges were mainly embodied between cinema andcommercial complex, cinema and audience, design and people. Another important aspectwas the expression of cultural attributes and brand identity like popular culture, cinemaculture, the theme of culture, geographical culture, community culture and updates etc.The research and analysis of digital multiplex cinema design in modern commercialcomplex brought new vitality into cinema design, providing guidance to personalizedtheater design and development.
