New Campus Campus Landscape Design

Our country has formulated and implemented the strategic policy of enrollment-expansion of universities and colleges since1998, which has actually alleviated the severe situation concerning on the young students facing little opportunities of receiving higher education. With the increasing numbers of undergraduates and the expanding scales of the universities and colleges, some higher demands of new campus construction have been made. Therefore, the problem of landscape design for new campus appeared during the special period.Because numbers of new campuses were built rapidly, lots of landscape designs were put into effect without deep investigations. At the same time, there was a series of problems, such as lacking of campus features, exaggerating on spatial scales, deficiency of campus spirits, formalism prevailing, and less space utilization, etc. These problems lost sight of the emotional care for the undergraduates, destroyed the ideal condition of the undergraduates and the staff, and also made them have no idea of the belonging sense of the new campus.Under these circumstances, the paper deeply analyses the causes of the problems, including the characteristic of new campus, cultural landscape of new campus, construction of new campus and so on. Based on the landscape practice of Henan Technical College of Construction, the paper makes a research on the landscape design for the new campus. From the point of view of application, the paper discusses the problems which have been existed or will be appeared in the process of the landscape construction, and concludes the main factors which influence landscape designs. Accordingly the paper summarizes cultural rules and features of campus landscape construction. Therefore, the paper puts forward a new train of thought on campus landscape construction during the new period, which will lead landscape design conception to be comfortable, green, cultural and ecological.
