The founding of People’s Republic of China marks that the country has moved forward from the phaseof new-democratic revolution to socialist revolution and construction. Facing the brand new and arduoustask, the Communist Party of China, while exploring the road no one has gone before, actively draw on thewisdom of history. Mao Tse-tung Thought is the banner of leading the Chinese revolution to victory, theprecious spiritual wealth of the Communist Party of China, and the indicator for the party and country tocarry out various works.The writings of Mao Tse-tung, epitomizing the Mao Tse-tung Thought, show the stance, methods, andexperience when the Chinese Communist Party, utilizing the basic principles of Marxism, solve practicalproblems in China. After the founding of New China, in order to have the national cadres and people learnthe Mao Tse-tung Thought better and proficiently apply the Mao Tse-tung Thought into socialist revolutionand construction, the Communist Party of China led a large-scale movement among national people tostudy Mao Tse-tung’writings. This paper focuses on the new China of the1950s, trying to build a picturethat how Chinese people learn Mao Tse-tung’works and restore a panorama of that movement, and basedon which, excavate deep the historical significance and experience of carrying out the movement to studyMao Tse-tung’writings. The purpose is to make some contribution to promoting the popularization ofMarxism in contemporary China.This thesis includes four parts:The first part: analyze the rising historical background of studying Mao Tse-tung’writings and sketchout the studying Mao Tse-tung boom which upsurges in the early decades of the founding of New China.The second part: systematically sort out the historic development of studying the Selected Works ofMao Tse-tung movement among national people and reveals the vivid procedure that Mao Tse-tungThought evolves from individual exploration to the common pursuit.The third part: put emphasis on the introduction of the context in which people study one single work,so as to show the different aspects of the movement that how people study and research Mao Tse-tung’philosophical thought, literary thought, and political thought. The fourth part: summarize the experience and historical significance of the movement that peoplestudy Mao Tse-tung’writings during1950s and seek the enlightenment to propel the popularization ofMarxism in the current situation.
