On The Contribution And Influence Of Chinese Students Studying Abroad In Japan To The Weapons Industry In The Times Of Nanjing National Government

Chinese students studying in Japan was a special group in the history of overseasstudy in the times of modern China. After the Qing Dynasty was defeated by Japan inthe Jiawu Naval Battle, on the one hand, the Qing Government had a strong wish to findthe reasons for strong national strength of Japan, and on the other hand, the QingGovernment wanted to indirectly learn the western science and technology which hadbeen absorbed by Japanese, together with the Japanese Government would haveaccepted Chinese students studying abroad in Japan for their own interests. That’s whythe Qing government sent a large number of Chinese students to Japan. Since then,though China experienced two periods of the Beiyang Government and the NanjingNational Government, the number of Chinese students studying abroad in Japanremained at a high level. After that, with the gradual deterioration of Sino-Japaneserelations, Chinese students studying abroad in Japan gradually returned in the period ofthe Nanjing National Government, when China was in a mess both domestically andabroad. From the internal environment, although Chiang Kai-shek nominally unified thecountry, local separatism still existed; from the external environment, Japan’s ambitionof launching an all-round offensive against China was gradually exposed. That’s whythe Nanjing National Government must establish their own weapon industry system todeal with the demands of the war. It was in this context that Chinese students studyingabroad in Japan engaged in the weapons industry of the Nanjing National Governmentwith their own background knowledge, and became the senior executive officers andprofessional technical backbones in various departments of the weapons industry.Chinese students studying abroad in Japan made significant contributions to the rapiddevelopment of the arms industry in the period of the Nanjing National Government.In order to highlight the historical contributions to the development of the weaponsindustry in the period of the Nanjing National Government made by Chinese studentsstudying abroad in Japan, the author comprehensively inspects the specific work and thehistorical influence which is conducted by Chinese students studying abroad in Japan inprocess of the development of the weapons industry in the period of the NanjingNational Government by making an arrangement and analysis to the academic researchresults at home and abroad, original archives and related historic literatures, thehistorical position.In summary, based on fully investigating the current status of the weapons industryof the Nanjing National Government, these Chinese students studying abroad in Japan made remarkable contributions to the Nanjing National Government weapons industry,including the scientific planning of the development direction to the weapons industryas a whole, the selection of the standard weapons and the path of the ordnance industryscience technology, the grasp of the specific implementation, the establishment of theordnance management agencies, the rectification and construction of new arsenal, theimitation and improvement of all kinds of weapons and the foundation of the ordnanceschool. To some extent, their efforts provided a premises guarantee for the weaponsindustry in a scientific way during the Nanjing National Government and changed theawkward situation that western ordnance industry science technology was simplyintroduced into China in the times of modern China.
