At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China,a group of intellectuals with a desire to save the nation from subjugation and survive went to Japan.Under the preparation of various conditions at home and abroad, some of students have changed from Democrats to Marxists with preliminary communist beliefs,so as to open the historical curtain of the early spread of Marxism in China. The research on the early spread of Marxism in China has always been a major topic of concern for scholars at home and abroad. However, throughout the domestic and foreign scholars’ research on this issue, most of them are macro discussions and historical facts, lacking of more in-depth discussion.Based on the enlightenment movement in modern China at the end of the 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century, using the research methods of communication, history and translation, and from the October Revolution to the founding of the Communist Party of China, this paper returns to the historical scene of the early dissemination of Marxism by students studying in Japan, systematically and comprehensively combing and evaluating the ideological transformation, social practice and historical characteristics of Marxism, and trying to trigger deeper theoretical thinking.Firstly, the author analyzes the origin of the enlightenment in modern China, which is not only influenced by the concept of Western learning, but also by the evolution of practical thought in the late Qing Dynasty,as well as the internal tension of Chinese traditional society. Then,it discusses the formation of students studying in Japan, mainly focusing on three aspects: the promotion of the Qing Dynasty after the defeat of the Sino Japanese War,the acceptance of students studying in Japan, and the awakening of patriotic youth’s national consciousness.Secondly, the logical route and reason analysis of the ideological change of the students studying in Japan are described. That is,from the perspective of history, culture and psychology to discuss that some students studying in Japan have changed from Democrats to Marxists with preliminary communist belief. And then it analyzes the reasons for their ideological change from international and domestic fields.Thirdly, the social practice of the early dissemination of Marxism among the students studying in Japan is summarized. On the basis of comparing the three early communication channels of Marxism in Japan,Europe and Soviet Russia,it summarizes the historical characteristics of the earliest time, more academic content than action, and deviation from the original Marxist Classics. Finally,on the one hand, the author explains the historical evaluation and realistic enlightenment of the students studying in Japan in their early dissemination of Marxism. On the other hand,it analyzes the historical limitations of the early dissemination of Marxism by students studying in Japan. After evaluating the positive and negative aspects of the early dissemination of Marxism among the students studying in Japan, this paper leads to practical enlightenment: to create a good context for the dissemination and acceptance of Marxism in China,to create a new cultural pattern of mutual integration of " Marxism","Chinese culture " and "Western culture",and to insist on theoretical innovation to promote the sinicization of Marxism,so as to consolidate and expand the Marxist public opinion in the new era.In short, the study of the Japanese channels in the early dissemination of Marxism is not only conducive to deepening the theoretical research on the origin of Marxism in China, but also has reference value for promoting the sinicization, modernization and popularization of Marxism in the new era.
