This is a translation project report on Memory：A Very Short Introduction, ofwhich Chapter4, Inaccuracies in memory is the source texts. In this part, the authormakes introduction and discussion on the sorts of memory difficulties such asforgetting, distortion and bias. Besides, he also considers situations in which memorymay work in a quantitively better manner. The project report uses Hans Vermeer’sSkopos theory as theoretical basis, whose core concept is the most important factorduring a translation process is the translation purpose as a whole and translation textshould be produced based on the target reader or some certain purposes. Memory：AVery Short Introduction belongs to Very Short Introductions from Oxford University,which are for anyone wanting a stimulating and accessible way in to a new subjectwith the simplest and most understandable style. The aim of this series agrees withHans Vermeer’s Skopos theory. During the translation process, the translator alwayscomplied with the theory to try to translate from the perspective of a westerner. Also,the translator used a series of translating methods during the process, such asresolution, back translation, addition and subtraction and so on. The project reportmainly has those four parts: firstly, the introduction of the translation project reportincluding its background, meaning and target; secondly, the theoretical basis and ashort introduction of the author and so on; thirdly, difficulties and solution includingresolution, back translation and so on; fourthly, a summary of experience, lessonsand shortages during the translation process.
