"The so-called ’Tongyi’ words, referring to some words when translated from one language to another, the words in language A that can be translated into two or more same words in language B"(Su Yingxia,2000). in the process of learning Chinese, this "translation equivalents" phenomenon hindered the learners from having a good command of the meaning and usage of these words. So, in this paper, our research based on the intermediate Chinese textbook, we get a quantitative research towards the "equivalent translation words", and analyze the classifications and causes of these words, in order to get a further study of "equivalent translation words". We aimed at perfecting the vocabulary interpretation of the textbook for teaching Chinese as a second language, meanwhile, we are going to offer some constructive suggestions to the compilation of textbook, as well as the vocabulary teaching in the future.,Our study includes three parts. In the first part, we get a general research towards the "equivalent translation words", and then analyze the classifications and causes of these words. By doing this research, we choose six volumes of intermediate textbooks, three of them are published by Chinese press, and two are from foreign press. The times of the publishing are mainly from the year of1994to2011. So we do a research towards this phenomenon, and according to the information we get, we find out that the earlier the textbook published, the more the number of "equivalent translation words" we get. And the number of the earliest textbook differs by11%from the latest textbook. After that, we get a research towards these6volumes of textbooks by the point of China press published textbook and foreign press published textbook separately. And find out that the number of foreign press published textbook is greatly less than the number of china press published textbook. And on this basis we go on with the second part, in this part, the author projects two sets of test questionnaires, which is based on the "equivalent translation words". The two questionnaires are:questionnaire A ("equivalent translation words" which is easily lead the students to misunderstand the meaning) and the questionnaire B (the same words as questionnaire A, only limit the meaning of the words). According to the survey results, the author finds out that in the process of learning vocabulary, the "equivalent translation words" really hindered students to get the meanings and usages of words. After that, we choose some examples form the corpus database, do some error analysis and classify the types of it, in order to find some effective measures to reduce the phenomenon of "equivalent translation words". In the last part, the author provides new recommendations for the interpretation of the words, and put forward some constructive suggestions to the vocabulary teaching on the basis of the textbooks of teaching Chinese as the second language...
