Conversation repair is an universal phenomenon in conversation.In1970s, American linguists began to study it and get great progress. However, the study of conversation repair at home is later and has less progress. Besides, most of the institutional conversation study focus on repair in English as a second language class.few researches study it from the perspective of oversea students. Therefore, this essay tries to research conversation repair phenomenon of foreign students in teaching Chinese as a second language class from two aspects of qualitative and quantitative research which combines conversation analysis theory and pragmatic theory.This essay can be divided into seven parts:The first part is the introduction. The introduction part mainly introduces the reason of topic selection, the research status of conversation repair.The second part is the design of study. This part explains the research questions, study objects, study methods, the source of corpus and transcription mode.The third part is the theoretical framework. The theoretical framework includes some theories have connections with repair such as, conversation analysis theory, pragmatic theory.The forth part is data statistics and analysis. We analysis the oversea students natural spoken language transcriptions and summarize the repair patterns, initiation techniques and repair strategies in teaching Chinese as a second language class.The fifth part is the elements affected the repair. In this part we analysis the potential causes account for different repair patterns from the aspects of pragmatic and sociolinguistic.The sixth part is teaching suggestion. In light of the results in the forth part and the fifth part, we provide some novel suggestion for teachers in teaching Chinese as a second language class.The seventh part is conclusion.In this part we summarize the research results of conversation repair and discuss the deficiency of collecting natural oral language.
