This paper is to examine the five representative new music societies,"MusicResearch Association of Beijing University","Great Harmony Musicians Society","Peking Aesthetic Music Society","Traditional Chinese Music Improvement Society"and "Farm Art Company". By analyzing the present archives about music societies,the development characteristics of the new music societies in1920s and1930s. At thattime, the main music activities in the new music societies involved music education,music theory and music practice and other aspects. After constant trials andexplorations, these societies formed their own characteristics and laid a solidfoundation for the early development of professional music education.This paper is divided into six parts: introduction, prospective music education ofthe music societies, pioneering significance of music theory research, influential artpractices, Characteristics of the music community and conclusion.Chapter one makes a summary of the research status of the new music societiesin modern China and the research significance and method. The reason why choosingthese five new music societies is also illustrated.Chapter two compares the continuously improving systematic education systemin these societies and modern professional music education to demonstrate thecharacteristics of music education in the new music societies in which both Chineseand western music education is employed.Chapter three elaborates vocal music, instrumental music, music composition andmusic historiography from the perspective of music theory research.Chapter four reviews the effects of the concerts and journals of the musicsocieties of that time on music communication from the aspects of music composition,concert and journals.Chapter five evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of contemporaryamateur music education from the historical inevitability of the emergence of modern new music societies, characteristics of music societies and the connectivity of thesesocieties at that time.
