Studies On Conjunction ’Yizhi’by The Three-Plane Theory

"Yizhi" is an important member of the modern Chinese conjunction system, it has two kinds of usage:one is used as a causal conjunction, stating a result which is caused by the condition mentioned above; another is used as a progressive conjunction, stating the stretching of time or extent or quantity or scope and so on. Moreover, this two usage can be combined with each other. When "Yizhi" refers to "to such an extent as to", it use as a causal conjunction as well as a progressive conjunction. This dissertation under the guidance of three-plane theory, based on the combination description and explanation, diachronic and synchronic, quantity and quality analysis methods, analyzed specific features of "Yizhi" on syntactic, semantic and pragmatic. This paper includes these parts:Part one namely introduction. In this part we make sure that the subject this paper will study is common Chinese conjunction "Yizhi", and we will focus on specific features of "Yizhi" on syntactic, semantic and pragmatic, the significance of this research is pointed out as well. Then we introduce some commentates on the allied studies, such as studies related to three-plane theory and "Yizhi ". Lastly we illustrate study methods used in the paper and where databases come from.Part two from chapter one to chapter three, is the core content of this paper. Chapter one analysis specific features of "Yizhi" on syntactic. This chapter consists of two aspects: one is "Yizhi" could connect with which linguistic units; another is "Yizhi" could co-occurrence with which connectives. Chapter two analysis specific features of "Yizhi" on semantic. Firstly, we perspective the meaning evolving of "Yizhi" from the diachronic angle, describing how "Yizhi " become a word and the motivation which prompted it. Then we study the semantic relation types between former term and latter term from the synchronic angle, and summary two kinds of semantic structure mode. Chapter three analysis specific features of "Yizhi" on pragmatic. This chapter mainly inspects the textual cohesion function and subjective expression of "Yizhi".Part three is the conclusion of this dissertation. The conclusion is to summarize the paper and the main standpoints and viewpoints.
