The views on neo-poetry shown in Chinese Literary History of Republican Period, means writers’ diachronic and synchronic value judgment and judging tendency about neo-poetry, as well as their ideological standpoints and formal concept of neo-poetry shown by historical evaluation.First, the paper starts with the background of the views on neo-poetry. The writers wrote the books out of academic goals or for Chinese textbooks. We try to find out what their up-to-date thought about neo-poetry which develops only in ten to thirty years is, under the legitimacy crisis of neo-poetry and non-poetic context. Based on these short-term criticisms of neo-poetry under the influence of different ideological trends, the writers built different kinds of neo-poetry imagination.Secondly, the paper focus on the presenting patterns of the views on neo-poetry in Chinese Literary History of Republican Period. These views are classified with three aspects as a criterion:the historical positioning of neo-poetry in the Literature Revolution, the description of development order of neo-poetry, the selection of neo-poetry texts and the historical positioning of the poets. Then we get three narrative patterns:"evolutionary","class-theoretical", and "aesthetic" patterns. When analyzed in synchronic way, the characteristic of the views on neo-poetry is "multiaspect with one point ". The permeation of classical Chinese aesthetic discourse, as well as the mixture of class discourse and individual aesthetic discourse, shows that writers keep their options of narrative discourse open under the circumstance of uncertain writing standards. When analyzed in diachronic way, a curvilinear trend of the views on neo-poetry can be seen.Thirdly, the paper tells the groundbreaking meaning of the views on neo-poetry shown in Chinese Literary History of Republican Period by comparing them with the views on neo-poetry shown in Chinese Literary History in the1950s. As a participant and overlooking person, the writer grasps the meaning of neo-poetry in emotional and rational narrative forms. Their close visual angle enlighten us on tridimensional judgment of neo-poetry. The multi-voice in narrative discourse shows the variety of neo-poetry creation, which provides different writing modes for successors. However, there are limitations with their study:the simplification of some views on neo-poetry, ambiguous classification of neo-poetry, the tendency of judging the history on narrow theory, unbalance of poetry criterion resulting from over-personalized writing.
