Water is the source of life and the material basis for human survival.Restricted by the level of productivity development and primitive thinking ability, our ancestors seemed powerless in the face of floods, lightning and other disasters.Dependence on water, fear and self-protection of life consciousness led to the ancestors’ original belief in aquatic worship.Under the influence of the concept of animism, the ancestors unconsciously linked themselves with the surrounding water,to a certain extent, carried the ancestors’ joys, sorrows and became the emotional sustenance. The worship of water under the concept of animism tends to merge with the early literary style poetry. This paper is divided into five parts on the basis of previous studies. The first part is the introduction, which first introduces the research object of this topic.Secondly,it reviews the research on water-related poetry in the academic history of the Pre-Qin Dynasty.Thirdly,it summarizes the value and significance of the study of water-related poetry literature in Pre-Qin Dynasty. Finally, the method used in this paper is briefly introduced. The second part is the compilation of the poems literature concerning water in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.First of all, this paper agrees with the views of Yang Shen,Gui Gu,Du Wenlan,Lu Qinli,Zhao Kuifu,Zhou Binggao,Wang Huibin and Liu Lizhi. The Songs,Poems,Ballads and Proverbs of the Pre-Qin Period are included in the perspective of investigation.make full use of the previous research results,as well as the supplementary works in recent years,to collect and record as many water-related poems as possible in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.Secondly, literature sources mainly include more credible handed-down documents before the late Warring States Period and unearthed documents in recent years.Thirdly, widely collect and diligently seek, often research and doubt, prudently distinguish different verses in poetry.Last,on the basis of synthesizing Wen Yiduo,Zhong Jingwen, chu Binjie and other scholars’ methods of potery thesizing,Pre-Qin water-related poems literature are classified into ritual poems, political poems and love poems and compiled in this order. The third part is the analysis and research of the content of the water-related poems in the Pre-Qin Dynasty. There are three sections in this part, which respectively discuss the ancestors’ activities in sacrifice, current affairs, marriage and love under the influence of the primitive aquatic worship belief of animism. The first section analyses the ancestors’ activities of sacrificing gods and ancestors. The article points out that the early praying for rain is the sacrificial activities of the ancestors under the dual consciousness of water dependence and fear.In addition, the sacrificial objects of this period also showed a change from the early water god to the later ancestor lord. The second section analyses the evaluation activities of the ancestors on the saints, virtuous officials and dumb officials. The ancestors believed that water had mysterious power,so they created a considerable number of political poems with water as the object of comparison. The third section analyses the marriage and love life of the early ancestors, who mostly expressed their love in the water-related environment or waded in the water scene to express their lament of the beginning of chaos and the end of abandonment. In addition, the article also analyses the reason why the feudal government formulated relevant policies to intervene in the marriage and love life of the ancestors, which is also related to the primitive thinking of aquatic worship. The fourth part is an analysis of the value of water-related poetry in the Pre-Qin Dynasty. There are three sections in this part. The first section discusses the literary value of water-related poems in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.Pre-Qin water-wading poetry describes a considerable number of water-wading scenery, with the prototype of landscape poetry model of later generations.Although these water-wading scenery in the poem have distinct personal consciousness,to a certain extent,it reflects the ancestors’ yearning for and love for nature. The second section discusses the folk cultural value of the water-related poems of the Pre-Qin Dynasty. The article points out that the early object of water worship is the water itself, and in the later period it gradually developed into the God of water and the ancestors of both gods. The third section discusses the cultural value of water-related poems in Pre-Qin Dynasty.Firstly, the paper analyses the value of farmland water conservancy. There are a considerable number of records about farmland irrigation of ancestors in the poem. The main irrigation methods are water diversion irrigation and spring diversion irrigation.Secondly, the early value of traffic and water conservancy is analyzed. There are a lot of records about the ancestors’ utilization of the "benefits of boats" in the poem, which provides an important reference for us to study the early water transportation. It is worth pointing out that the sea practice of the ancestors was also recorded in the water-wading poems of the Pre-Qin Dynasty.Along with the development of productivity and the progress of shipbuilding technology, there are also large canals and water transportation networks in all directions(water conservancy covenants restraining the princes also appeared in the later period),which promoted the interrelationship between different regions and accelerated the historical process of early Chinese civilization. The fifth part is the conclusion of this paper. This paper summarizes the value and significance of compiling the literature of water-related poetry in pre-Qin Dynasty, and reveals the important influence of the study of water-related poetry on the study of academic history and cultural history.
