LiaoShi(辽史)is a biographical history book, mainly written by Tuotuo. It is one of the twenty-four past dynasties which are referred as Chinese official history. For the reason that’Qidan’s books were strictly forbidden, and one would be killed by law if he gave any books to China’, only four books remained so far. Therefore, As China’s earliest and most complete basic history book of Liao Dynasty, Liaoshi is very important and precious. Despite its high value, no one has ever study the book. This thesis attempts to conduct a preliminary review and research about the chronicles parts of Liaoshi from the perspective of linguistics.This thesis consists of five chapters. The introduction briefly introduced the academic value of history books’ vocabulary and the research achievement, research significance, research method of the vocabulary in Liaoshi. In the first chapter, it has carried on the concrete textual study and explication about the57words which have neither been embodied in Chinese Big Dictionary(汉语大词典)nor explained by other people. The work has been done by analyzing the meaning of morpheme, comparing the synonyms and contacting the context. In the second chapter, the thesis cited23words which shows that the documentary evidences of Chinese Big Dictionary are much later than the truth. What’s more, it inspects some problems of the Chinese Big Dictionary, such as late proofs, not-exploring the handing down proofs. In third part,48words were selected to illustrate the relationship between the language of Liao Dynasty and modern Chinese. Finally, the main contents and contributions of this thesis has been summarized in the epilogue.
