In Modern Chinese Literature, Lao She has enjoyed high reputation with his literary works. However, it is obscure to almost everyone that meanwhile he has assumed a translator’s role. In fact, as a translator, Lao She translated at least16works, nearly25,000words in total.Given the truth mentioned above, we insisted that Lao She’s translations be studied and valued, so that we could read Lao She completely and deeply.The Paper focuses on Lao She’s "English-Chinese" translations in1930s, in consideration of the fact that there are14of total16translations done in the period,and simultaneously the very period is the climax stage of Lao She’s literary creation, such as<Camel Xiangzi>,<The Quest for Love of Lao Lee>,<Crescent Moon>,etc. In this Paper, the following elements would be attached by means of translatology, comparative literature and literary history: his translation strategy, the effect of translation on his writing, and the reason why he ceased his translation abruptly.The Paper consists of four parts:Chapter1:This chapter mainly introduces the brief consideration of Lao She’s translation, then particularly pays attention to the special characteristic of Lao She’s translation in1930s, and the symbiosis between his translation and editing works.Chapter2:This chapter turns to three aspects. First, it analyzes the specific characteristics (domesticating and foreignizing translation) of Lao She’s translation at vocabulary, sentences and text level by means of translatology; second, it summarizes the reason of his translation strategy with the theory of Cultural School; last, it mentions to the development of Lao She’s translation theory in1950s.Chapter3:From the perspective of comparative literature, this chapter concretely clarifies the influence of Lao She’s translation on his literary creation in five respects: direct reference to short stories, shaping of love, shifting to war literature, Lao She’s "Dante Worship" and "European Sentence" in his writing. Chapter4:This chapter analyzes the reason why Lao She’s translation ceased abruptly from the perspective of literary history and translation history, and the significance of Lao She’s translation.
