Gua-zhi-er is one of the folk songs’portfolios recorded and compliled by FengMeng-long.It was mainly collected from the cities in the south of Yangtze River. During theperiod of Wanli, the Gua-zhi-er caused a big stir when it was pubulished. The strange style ofit may manifest affected by the unusual atmoiphere of that times, also influenced by FengMenglong’s rebellion character and his ideal of reforming society with emotional power.Inthe past few years,there has been an upsurge of research into the Gua-zhi-er because of itsunique art style and rich connotations.The language of the Gua-zhi-er is mixed with north andsouth dialect,unlikely the Shan-ge is pure dialect. In the process of Gua-zhi-er,it spread fromnorth to south,moreover city residents are the main participants, and during the editingprocess of Feng Menglong,dialect and words are not completely corresponding. All of theseelements made the language of Gua-zhi-er difference from Shan-ge. Adopting the writingmethod of folk narration is a characteristic of the Gua-zhi-er.The essential characteristics offolk songs is one such reason, the rich cultural atmosphere is another. the content ofGua-zhi-er is extremely rich, the part about folk beliefs and feminism have great value tostudy. Advocating fashion and natural in Gua-zhi-er produced high easthetic value. Theemergence of such easthetic ideas is closely related to the specific background of culturaltransformation. Espessally the expression of ugliness posses an essense of the modernity, andit is also the perfection of easthet.
