Overseas Studies On Modern Chinese Literary Criticism In English

Modern Chinese Literary Criticism Plays an important role in the development ofmodern Chinese civilization. It has a great impact on both Chinese Modern ChineseLiterature and Chinese Modern Society. Overseas study on Modern Chinese LiteraryCriticism in English began from the beginning of the1950s, which includes translation andanalysis, monographic study and Comprehensive Study. Nevertheless, Domestic study inthis field is unbalanced in two aspects. Compare to extensive research on overseas studieson Chinese ancient literary criticism, domestic studies in this field appear to be exile. Onthe other hand, the fact that domestic study favors research written by famous sinologist orhas been translated into Chinese makes some important researches neglected.On the basis of scrutiny, this paper, divided into three chapters by refining threeimportant topics: overseas study on the relationship between modern Chinese literarycriticism and foreign influence，traditional legacy and ideology. The first chapter analysisthe revelation of overseas study on the relationship between modern Chinese literarycriticism and foreign influence by focusing on the subjectivity of the influence recipient,the differences between affected literature criticism and novel of one writer, and the use offoreign influence in the Literary Field. The secondary chapter lays an emphasis oncontextualization research of tradition and modern, the reason and result of rewritingtradition, and the exchange between “Great Tradition” and “Little Tradition” in overseasstudy. The tertiary chapter reflects on the interaction of literature and ideology.Chinese modern literary theory conceived in the reborn of Chinese civilization.Overseas studies on Modern Chinese Literary Criticism in English relates to thecommensurability of Chinese Literary Criticism and Western Literary Criticism, as well asthe “Aphasia” of modern Chinese Literary Criticism. The Observation of Overseas studieson Modern Chinese Literary Criticism in English is not only a process of understandingothers, but also a way of reflect on our own.
