In recent years, a growing number of Canadian literary works have been translated into Chinese, it makes incomparable contribution to intercultural communication. Among them, a Canadian literary celebrity—Farley Mowat with his extremely humanistic concern is known by the public groups. This is a translation report of The Black Joke (Chapterl—2) by Farley Mowat who is the most famous ecological writer in Canada. So far there is no Chinese translation text.This novel is a mirror of marine culture. In order to provide translated text and the material for the Canadian literature scholars to research. On the basis of brief introduction of the project and the original background of the text, this report apply the translation methods of adding, inversing and splitting etc., which is presented by Zhang Peiji.In the translation process, translator should fully consider the context of the original and try to make the translation conform to the expression of Chinese habit. Meanwhile, translator should attempt to make the style of the target text agree with the source text. This requires the translator to have solid language foundation of basic skills and cross-cultural knowledge, and linked to the translation theory, policy and practice closely in the process of translation, and that will improve the translation capability.
