The Research On Director Ann Hui

In the film industry, male director occupies more than a half of the field. Ann Hui with her own unique perspective and extraordinary talent has stood on this field for more than thirty years. As the leader of the new wave in Hong Kong movies, she holds an irreplaceable position in the Hong Kong film industry, and even in the Chinese film industry.This paper includes three parts which is introduction, main part and conclusion. Each part selects the appropriate texts to analyze the creation which Ann Hui has built in this thirty years. Introduction shows her life experiences, work profiles and research status. Because her productions are numerous, mixed and without a formula, the research of Ann Hui is so far insufficient. Main part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analyzes the artistic style, from the camera language, narrative mechanisms and modeling spaces, and summarizes that "realism" is her usual expression. The second chapter studies at the lady characters in Ann Hui’s work. By dividing the characteristics into strong, sad and sensitive, this chapter shows how Ann Hui built these lady characters. The third chapter analyzes the adaptations of literary works director Ann Hui did. Selecting the "Eighteen Springs" and "Fallen" as the most representative films, the chapter compares the differences between the movie and the original novel from the story, character design and narrative point.
