During interpreting, interpreters often encounter some information that contains Chinese specific culture, such as customs, poems and idioms, allusions and historical events, which are difficult for interpreters to deal with. Meanwhile the capacity for coping with the cultural factors has impact on the communication between different language speakers. From the perspective of Skopos Theory, this thesis aims at discussing the coping strategies for cultural factors in C-E interpretation. This thesis starts with an analysis of cultural factors. Firstly, it discusses some cultural factors encountered in interpretation practice, classifies them into historical culture, custom culture, value and geographical culture, and also analyzes the factors that influence the handling of culture factors, such as the instantaneity, occasion of interpretation and cultural background of participants. In this thesis, the Skopos Theory is employed as theoretical foundation. The Skopos Theory breaks through the bondage of traditional equivalence theory and stresses that the purpose of translation decides the methods and strategies for translation. The three rules of Skopos Theory, namely, skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, can be used to guide the interpretation of cultural factors. On the basis of Skopos Theory, some coping strategies are put forward:literal translation, free translation, amplification, and omission, which are all exemplified.
