Translation Of Diaries And Management Of Translation Projects

Tung Chao Yung (1912-1982), also known as C.Y. Tung, is “one of the topshipping giants in the world”. His diaries clearly reveal his inner world and givereaders an insight into his persistent endeavors to modernize the Chinese shippingindustry. Some MT students from the Class of2011participated in GIIT’s project totranslate the diaries from Chinese into English. Through practice, the students gainedsome first-hand experience in a real translation project as well as professionalprocedures in project management. In this thesis, the author discusses the specificliterary style of the Tung diaries, the challenges it poses to the translators, and thelatter’s solutions to the problems, in the hope that the discussion may lead to aninquisitive look at the diary translation and large translation project management ingeneral.
