| Since China has experienced the reform and opening up with the vigorous development of hi-technology, China’s auto industry has been developing with steady progress and significant momentum especially during the years of the beginning of the21st century. With the economic globalization and expanding of the market requirement, the auto industry in China has great development potential and China has become the leading supplier of creative products instead of a passive role, which had always accepted the intelligent property and product process of foreign auto parts. In order to promote the communication of developmental skills of auto parts between China and foreign countries, translation has played a great role without doubt. The incorporation of translation industry and auto industry enables China to be a part of the international market and bring new opportunities for the development of China’s auto industry. The incorporation means that theories of translation are applied in translation artfully and in translating the auto text into a concise, correct, complete and natural target text, which promotes the communication of skills and economy in auto industry between China and other countries. Besides, English auto text has some characteristics in vocabulary, syntax and main functions comparing with common English texts and it is much professional. Therefore, the exclusive study should be made to conclude its characteristics and master the aim of translating the text. Then as regard to its functions and language characteristics, choose a proper translation tragedy and convey the information accurately in the target text. Auto air conditioning is one of the main comfort parts in vehicle, this essay combines texts of auto A/C system with Catford’s shifts theory to comprehensively present its specific application in auto text.Besides an introduction and a conclusion, this essay consists of three parts:the first part shows the analysis of the feature of "content is more important than form" in English auto text and process of translating and work after translation; in the second part, the theoretical basis of this essay, i.e. Catford’s translation theory (level shifts and category shifts) and the theoretical basis of Catford’s translation theory are presented. In the third part, it is the practice of shifts theory’s application in English auto text. The fact is proved by the practice that as for the functions and language feature, Catford’s translation theory is applicable to English auto text, and it can resolve the difficulties among different languages efficiently. The theory is much practical, instructive and operable in the process of translation; in return the practice has some effects of efficiency and guidance on the theoretical basis of translating English auto text. |
